Toby Ann Stavisky is a Democratic New York State Senator for District 11 and the first woman from Queens County elected to the State Senate. Before serving in the Senate, she worked in the actuarial department of a major insurance company and taught social studies in New York City high schools. She was first elected to the Senate on November 2, 1999, and currently serves as Vice President Pro Tempore and Chair of the Senate Committee on Higher Education.
