Assemblyman Phil Ramos (D-Brentwood) was born in the Bronx, NY, moved to Brentwood as an infant, graduated from Brentwood High School, and worked as a therapy aide at Pilgrim Psychiatric Center before becoming an EMT. He joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1979, served for 20 years including 10 years as an undercover narcotics officer, later worked in the detective unit, and retired in 2001. Ramos was first elected to the New York State Assembly in 2002 and serves Assembly District 6 as Deputy Speaker.
